Minutes of Meeting January 18, 2007

 

Present:           Johan Akal, Kim Davis, David Denkin, Jill Dorsett, Ricardo Galatzan.

I.          Welcome & Minutes:  Meeting began at 5:30 PM

SAC members welcomed

                                                SAC Minutes from November 16, 2006 read, corrected,

                                                            and approved – Beverly Porter / Tracey Roberts

 

II.        Chair Report               Claudia Postell, acting SAC Chairperson:

                                               

                                                Update of Booker High technical needs which has been presented

                                                to Sarasota County School Board.  Two (2) permanent career and

computer labs consisting of 30 computer each, and two

                                                (2) mobile labs consisting of 30 laptops, will be given by the

Sarasota County School District in April.  Previous internal funding approved by SAC Committee will not be used to fund this

project.

 

Reviewed “Statement of Strategic Intent for Booker High School”.

 

School Management Team adopted three (3) priorities to work on.

III.       Principal Report          Ms. Dorsett, Principal:

 

1.      FCAT school improvement plan worksheet on

Booker High School grade 2007 places us at a “C”

Level at 457. If progress is less than 50%, the grade

Level is subtracted which would make Booker High

School a “D” school.  Incentive plans are being implemented to encourage a more positive FCAT

performance.

           

2.      Saturday Academy – 8:00 am – 11:00 am on designated Saturdays. Students who attend all sessions will receive IPODS at the end of the sessions – Level I.

 

After school tutoring program for Level 1 and II is continuing.  Reading Assessment currently show

9th grade – 5% increase       10th grade – 5% decrease

                  Math Assessment

9th grade – 5% increase         10th grade – 2% increase

                  Science Assessment

11th grade – 1% increase

 

                                                            3.  FTE attendance reviewed.

IV.       Student Report           Junior/Senior Board – Carta Robison

Fund raising activities abound by selling of sweatshirts and a

            silent auction .  Prom theme for 2007 – 007 James Bond.

            Company coming February 2nd to offer Prom proposal

            for a dance, decoration, food set up – clean up.  Concern is

            poor prom attendance by students.    

 

V.        Old Business               No old business was discussed.                     

 

VI.       New Business             Small Learning Community information sheet distributed during

                                                The SLC meeting of February 7, 2007.
