Booker High SAC

Meeting November 21, 2003

 

Present:            Tricia Allen, Dumaka Atkins, Denise Cantalupo, Liliana Chavez,

Grady Ford, Jan Gibbs, Dorothy Kosovac,  Dr. Jack McDonald,

Reebie Simms, Lisa Torres, Linda Ware.

 

 

Agenda:            SAC minutes from October, 24, 2003 meeting were approved by SAC

                        members.

 

Discussions:      SAC process as related to the Southern Association Accreditation process.

                        Expansion of SAC functions to interact with Booker High School

activities.

                        Importance of student input to SAC could influence our Booker High:

            School improvement plans

            Re-vamping of Climate Survey

            Influence BHS budget for upcoming year(s)

 

Continuation of student input discussion at next SAC meeting: 

SAC assignment:  Come up with 5 things in the

Interest of students to improve BHS:

1.      Sponsor student forums

2.      “You Make A Difference” campaign for staff and students

3.      Help create a positive self-image

4.      Improve student and staff commitment in themselves

5.      Students assisting students program/ guidance and

academic achievement orientated because peer

groups have more impact on students

1.      Coaches assist with assimilating / implementing data;

2.      Every person, staff and student is responsible for student

achievement.

3.      Teacher role for student success:

a.       Use data / test trakker

b.      Analyses data

c.       Report to students individual test scores

d.      Analyses student need / change to curriculum

4.      Guidance Department role for student success:

a.       FCAT Talk for last years 9th graders who scored

below 300 on FCAT;

b.      Counsel students to FCAT: skills, behavior and

attendance;

 

c.       Options for student help:

FAST: Free After School Tutoring

Extended Guidance office hours for parents and

            student

FCAT practice book for every student

Math workbook for every student

Homework assistance via computer hotline

Students assisting students to be developed

Writing program to be developed

Continued Professional Staff development training

            and evaluation

Teaching strategies constantly being modified to

            meet student learning needs and to increase

student achievement, test scores

Small Learning Communities expanded program
