Small Learning Communities Update Presentation by Amy Petz.

A report on the SLC programs initiation into Sarasota County

Schools and the development and implementation of this program into

Booker High School. Progress of SLC at Booker High School shows

implementation of the SLC program is proving to be an effective

learning process for our 9^th grade students. Discipline problems

are fewer, and the 9^th grade students have a higher percentage of

3.0 or better gpa during the first grading period 0304. Planning

for the continuation, growth and expansion of this program is

currently underway of the upcoming school years.

Tricia Allen attended a SLC conference in Savannah, Ga. The conference

explored the concept of Small Learning Community Schools along with

goal oriented concepts to assist schools already involved in the process

of growth and expansion.

Discussion SAC committee members discussed areas of need to enhance our SLC

program: Volunteers and the necessity of increasing tutoring

opportunities;

Support from the business community to mentoring students

for leadership roles and career education;

Grants and other funding needed to assist with teaching

materials.

Sarasota County School District Vision Mission and Vision for SLC.

Booker High School Improvement Plan Goals achieved and

current 0304 goals. Discussion for the 0304 School

Improvement plan to be continued at the next meeting.
