SAC Minutes
February 19, 2008
3:30 PM
1) WELCOME/ANNOUNCEMENTS S. Whitesides
W. Muth
Ms. Whitesides
opened the meeting and welcomed all at 3:30 p.m.
Mr. Muth
wanted to thank the Starry Starry
Night committee for
all their
hard work to assist Ashton. The night
went very, very well.
2) APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1/15/08 S. Whitesides
Mrs. Ward made a motion to approve the
1/15/08 minutes; Mrs. Phillips
seconded the
motion, and the motion was approved.
3) COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT W. Muth
·
Final
Decision
The Children’s Haven rep had spoken
with Mr. Muth and asked to be considered as our sister school to receive donations if the One for
the Books project was chosen. Children’s Haven is a non-profit
organization. Mrs. Dobbert distributed the
Scholastic’s One for the Books instructions.
Mrs. Dobbert
would like the Ambassadors to be heavily involved in whatever project is chosen.
We want all the children to be able to
participate. The book fair will be
May 5-9th. There will be two weeks of collecting monies
for the One for the Books project
before the book fair. Mrs. Brown will
check to see where we can have the change
counted without an excessive charge.
Would it be possible to place
collection containers at some of our business partners’
locations?
A motion was made to accept One for the Books as our Community
Service Project and partner with
Children’s Haven as a recipient of
our donations
by Mrs. Phillips; Mrs. Morrow seconded, and the
motion was approved.
4) AFTERNOON DISMISSAL W.

Cars
·
Congestion
in Building
Mr. Muth
would like the SAC to be aware of some concerns regarding
safety issues
with dismissal. We would like all
parents to follow
the rules and
not try to circumvent the system. The
square lot is
not a place
where parents should be waiting in the car for the
student to
walk to the car. Parents need to park
and walk their
child across
the parking lot to the building. Also,
the congestion in the building is
getting to be quite noisy in the afternoon.
We would appreciate
parents not
entering the media center until after the 3:15 bell, as
Mrs. Dobbert
is conducting classes until that time.
We are not trying
to keep
parents away, but to give Mrs. Dobbert quiet time to
finish
her
instruction. Two parking places were
awarded at the auction,
and these
places should be used only by those two persons.
5) PTO UPDATE PTO Rep
Mrs. Farb
gave a PTO update on Star Sprint. The kick
off is March 7th.
T-Shirts have been ordered and all
children have been sized.
Starry Starry
Night proceeds look like we met or exceeded
the budget of
$18,000. Staff appreciation is March 20th. Slots are
available for
next year’s PTO board.
6) AMBASSADOR UPDATE Rep
None at this meeting
7) OTHER All
The garage sale for 5th
grade Sea Camp is 2/23/08 in the front
parking lot
to help offset the costs associated with Sea Camp. Items can be dropped off that morning. A flyer went home today.
Ms. Whitesides
contacted Mr. Dragon regarding the monies
for the trip
to
monies for
the trip. Extra monies raised will be
used for clothes for the
members as
well as other items needed for the trip.
Other suggestions
are
disposable cameras and albums for each member.
Mr. Dragon
was ecstatic. Sherri Amsel the
author will be here on the 28th.
Almost
100 books have been pre-ordered. Additional books will be available
that
day. There will be two assemblies, and
then she will work
with 3rd
grade on mini lessons.
The next SAC
meeting will be March 18, 2008 at 3:30 p.m.
The meeting was
