1) WELCOME/ANNOUNCEMENTS S. Whitesides
·
Ashton
Star now on website W.
Muth
The
meeting called to order at 3:30 by Mrs. Whitesides.
Mr. Muth
announced that the Ashton Star is now
on the website. Thank you Mrs. McCoy. Mr. Muth spoke
about the two
handouts. One from the
of School
Administrators regarding
climb in the
national rankings to number 14. Mr. Muth
also handed
out the “Get Informed” flyer regarding
the upcoming
election on January 29th and the property
tax
information.
2) APPROVAL OF MINUTES 12/11/07 S. Whitesides
The
minutes from the SAC meeting held December 11th
were approved
as submitted. Mr. Padgett made a motion,
seconded by
Mrs. Quale and approved by all.
3) COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT W. Muth
·
One
for the Books Update J.
Dobbert
·
Other
Suggestions All
Mrs.
Dobbert reported that Lakeview set up a jar in the
office
for participants
to donate monies for books. They gave
their
donations to Emma Booker. Scholastic then matches the monies
raised and
donates that amount to one of four charities that
they have
previously approved. You can do grade level competitions
and make it
as simple as you want. The Media Specialist
was not involved
in the
program. The event could be a great
communication between Ashton students and
the community depending on who is adopted. The Ambassadors will be involved. Mrs. Stith sent an e-mail suggesting adopting the Humane Society as our project. Mr. Padgett suggested Children’s Haven. Mrs. Quale
suggested that it might be interesting to adopt a
school in one
of
would be a
way to help with the needy families in the area. A final vote
will be taken
at the February 19th SAC meeting on one of the four
suggestions. The Ambassadors will also vote at their next
meeting.
4) PROJECTED ENROLLMENT W. Muth
Mr.
Muth reports that the preliminary projections for
next year could be status quo or less
than our numbers we now have. We are
concerned about our numbers dropping
below 800 and the possibility of losing some services. The
County is looking at 18-1 per primary classrooms and 22-1 in upper grades as mandated by the state for next year.
This could pose a classroom space
problem for some schools. Mr. Muth is concerned that Ashton
is not a designated school for choice.
The DROP program will continue
as last year. If a teacher has met the
maximum 5-year DROP requirement, they
must retire. A teacher can then be
rehired if there
are openings.
5) PTO UPDATE PTO
Rep
A general
membership meeting is Feb 5th . Starry, Starry
Night is 2/16. It will not be a sit down dinner. The Star Sprint
Kick-off is scheduled for March 7th
at 1:45, and the Sprint
will be held
on March 28th.
6) OTHER All
Mr. Muth
attended the All-State Chorus concert on Friday
afternoon. Ashton had two students who qualified. They
were
outstanding!
Susan Brown – a couple parents were
wondering if the teacher website
could be used
more by teachers to update homework, schedules, etc. Mr. Muth stated that he would like all teachers to have a
website for general
information. Specific class information, calendars, etc.
are to be sent home through the student
planners.
Mrs. Quale also
brought up that the Gocio Elementary Arts program
has been
asked to perform in
we could help
out by each teacher conducting a penny drive in their
homeroom to
help fund the $25,000 needed to send these needy students to
Mr. Muth
suggested that the ambassadors look at the suggested community service projects at their next meeting
and vote on their favorite.
The Ambassadors will help with K round
up in April.
Mr. Muth
walked around to every classroom the day we came back from break.
He observed teachers teaching and all the students were on task.
It was wonderful for a principal to
see everyone back on track upon
returning
from the two week break. He wanted
everyone to know you
can be proud
of the teachers here at Ashton.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:05.
