of their upcoming plans for the school year.

3)      COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT                                   W. Muth

v One for Books                                                    J. Dobbert

Mrs. Dobbert presented the idea of a program called “One for the

Books.”  This program basically collects funds for a school or entity that

doesn’t have the funding to purchase books.  The program is run

through Scholastic.  In addition to the funds collected, Scholastic

will match with books given to three of their chosen charity organizations.

Mrs. Dobbert reported the book fair raised over $15,000.  Ashton PTO will          receive 25%.

Mr. Padgett suggested Children’s Haven organization might be a place

to adopt for a Community Service Project.

A question was raised about whether Ashton students could purchase books to donate.  Mrs. Dobbert suggested that in the future some of the A+     monies might be used to give students a voucher to use at the book fair as a    reward.

Our Community Service Project should involve as many students as possible   working along with their parents to support the project that is chosen.

Let’s make a final decision in January so we can get started.  Mrs. Dobbert

will contact the media specialist at Lakeview to see exactly how the “One     for the Books” program works.

Mrs. Schatz was made aware of a student with an illness.  Could our civic

project help this family or possibly the Make a Wish Foundation?  Mr. Muth did inform the SAC of the student’s illness.  Channel 40 will be doing a

piece on this family.  Also, the Landings was able to procure a computer

for the family since their computer was broken.  The family travels

back and forth to All Children’s.  Donations for gift cards or cash may

          be given to Donna.

4)      PTO UPDATE                                                                  PTO Rep
