4)        BUDGET/STAFF UPDATE                                                               W. Muth

10 day count has been finalized, and we are 9 students below which

cost us about  $33,000.  We had on reserve one position.  We will be

using a portion of the reserved funding to post a position for a .6 ESE liaison.  We

were allocated only federal funds which will pay for this position.  Class sizes

are great.  Mrs. Stith was wondering how Mrs. Sparks was able to return

when she was listed at the end of the year as retiring.   Mr. Muth explained that

Mrs. Sparks had to reapply as a new teacher.  She went though the interview

process during the hiring of a third and fourth grade teacher.  We interviewed 17

in-county applicants.  We had a teacher surplus into our 5th grade vacancy, (Mrs.             DeHart) and a teacher surplus into one of the vacant 3rd grade (Mrs. Kerr).  We then      interviewed and hired a new teacher, Mrs. Visser for 3rd grade vacancy, and Mrs.   Sparks for our fourth grade position.

5)         SUPPLEMENTAL ACTIVITIES                                                       W. Muth

Supplement funding has changed somewhat this year.

Newspaper and safety patrol were a separate line item,

but this year, they were included in the flexible

funding.  Safety patrol supplement was reduced by $500.  We

have recommended the attached supplements as follows:

ACE (tutoring) $2,000; AMBASSADORS $500; ASHTON STAR

$1500; GRANTS $500; SAFETY PATROL $1500; SCIENCE FAIR

            $2000; STAFF DEVELOPMENT $500; WEB SITE/BROADCAST

            $1000; YEARBOOK $2,000.

6)         FACILITIES UPDATE                                                                       W. Muth

Sidewalk and sod along parking lot were completed.  It provides extended

safety, and is being used by many students and parents.  Bathrooms in K

wing and front office had new floors installed.  Epoxy floor is great.

Security cameras are all installed and working.  They provide great security          enhancement. Media murals are wonderful, and Ringling School was great

to work with.  Seven students drew all the artwork, and 150 art students came

and painted one Saturday.  We will be hosting a thank you celebration

on the 25th for the Ringling students as well as for our summer reading/writing

students and FCAT students.  Mr. Muth sealed all the walls over the

summer.  Mr. Muth acknowledged the school board paint shop who furnished

the sealant. K playground will be installed the 3rd to last week of September.

Mr. Bockler had a concern that with the extra 20 minute PE mandate that

the students aren’t able to get a drink before going to art and music.  Mr. Muth

            will check into the matter.

about our SOS project.  One of the soldiers called Mr. Muth from Iraq and

was very appreciative.  The UPS store on Bee Ridge was very helpful

with shipping and took care of everything, and even allowed a discount.

Mrs. Ghose – is PE a daily requirement?  It’s 150 minutes a week, and we

are getting 110 thru our PE department, and classroom teachers are

completing the other 40 minutes per week.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:10 p.m. by Mrs. Whitesides.
