S.A.C. Meeting Minutes

August 16, 2006

 

Introduction

Representation from all teams, Megan Natherson for PTO, Susan Brown for Business Partners, Steve Bockler, Audrey Quale, Stacy Stith, Patt Hudda for Classified Employees

 

SAC - School Advisory Council

  • SAC is an Advisory committee to Mr. Muth and Ashton Elementary School.
  • The State requires that each school have a committee made up of parents, businesses, teachers and school personnel as a liaison to the school and the community.
  • SAC is to consist of 51% non school based personnel 49% school based personnel

 

Operational Guidelines

  • Guidelines are to be looked over at the beginning of each school year.
  • Proposed changes have been highlighted in guidelines distributed to Council.
    • Team SAC Representation will be elected by the team
    • Team Leader will be selected by the Principal
    • If vacancies still remain after elections are completed, Principal solicit for vacancies
    • Notification of meetings will be within 48 hours
    • Section listing collaborative groups has been eliminated and replaced with “special committees”
    • It was moved and seconded that changes to Operational Guidelines be approved as submitted

NOTE: Team Leaders please let Andrea know who will be representing your team this year

 

School Improvement Plant

  • May include 30 hour training for teachers – will receive information at the Principals meeting 08-17-06

 

5 Star Community Service Project

  • Offered examples of service projects: Guide Dog Program, Challenger Little League Baseball Program for Handicapped children, Camp Fish Tales for Handicapped children, The Horse Adoption Program
  • Gave examples of past Ashton projects: All Faiths Food Bank, Read-A-Thon for Hurricane Katrina Victims, Book Collection for Community
  • Grade Five will be tending to the Butterfly Garden after the rainy season

 

Budget and Staffing

  • Ashton is above projected enrollment  with 863 students
  • Ashton has one of the largest Kindergarten classes in the north County area
  • School Budget is confirmed at the end of the 10 day count, which is Friday, August 18th
  • Additional Teacher may need to be hired
  • Q-Would like to be more involved in Budget process
  • When budget is received it is reviewed by Admin then taken to SAC
  • SAC members behave in professional manner with the goal of doing what is best for the children and the entire school

 

Survey – Car Drop off and Pick Up Area

  • PTO parent new to school is concerned with PM Pick-UP Loop at the back of school-would like to offer survey for parents regarding same
  • Past history of Pick-Up Loop shows numerous trial and error proposals culminating with present procedure and agreement with residents
  • Will re-visit concern after school has been in session for a month or so

 

Renovation

  • The remodel has nearly been successfully completed
  • New building looks fantastic with its bright and open medial center
  • KG building is awesome, much improved after its facelift
  • New carpeting makes big improvement in Building 2
  • A few issues remain and are being addressed, some leaks in the roof
  • Five portables have been removed, others will be demolished on site within the next few weeks
  • The pvc and wiring will be removed, green seed overspray will be applied – may be a good area for beach volleyball pit

 

Next Meeting

  • Two Parents’ term have been completed, ballots will be distributed for replacements
