OLD BUSINESS
o PALS is offering SAC Training is tomorrow night from 6-9 at Brookside Middle School
o Several new members of the SAC have signed up to attend.
o Should you attend please bring your certificate of attendance to office so that a copy may be made for our 5 Star records
o Adequate Progress Report was distributed via Email prior to this meeting for information only, as the deadline for submission was September 16th.
o When the needs assessment data comes back positive, those needs do not need to be identified in the current year Strategic Plan for Excellence…but may be if it would be in the best interest of the school.
o NOTE: Science will be added to the FCAT this year as a pilot. The test results collected this year will set the baseline for the years ahead.
o The data collected is coming in a different format so it is difficult to pinpoint some of the strides made in the past year (i.e. were receiving info in Stanines…no longer).
o Two new assessments have been mandated in kindergarten which evaluate pre-school programs. We are unsure, at this time, as to how this information might assist us in setting our goals.
o Testing is not a bad thing…it does give a picture from year to year of student progress, and helps everyone focus!
o Meetings have been scheduled with all team leaders to discuss testing results and the team focus as it relates to this data. This information will assist the school in the setting of this year’s goals.
o Ashton continues to make great strides.
o Must be submitted by October 4th
o This is the last year of the five year Campaign for Excellence Plan that is currently in place.
o Mr. Renouf recommended that Ashton keep all goals as set last year, to keep expectations high.
o He also recommended that we add an Arts goal and begin looking at measurable projects in this area
o Gina Cirillo will be the contact person for Ashton Elementary
o Forums dates are for October 14, January 27, and March 31st
o Dads will be invited for lunch the week of October 7 to give Fathers an opportunity to visit the school. This will replace last years Donuts for Dads program which presented a traffic and parking problem.
o The cancelled PTO Meeting will not be rescheduled, however the 4th grade will perform at the October 17th meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 3:40 pm
Next meeting Wednesday, October 2nd, 2002
Finalize SPE for 2002-03
Identify areas SAC should address (i.e. uniforms, recognition dollars, technology, SPE process).
School Recognition Dollars
NOTE: No representation from Publix was in attendance. Susan Whitesides will contact Publix at Palmer Ranch to see if they wish to continue involvement with Ashton’s School Advisory Council or if another business should be contacted. (Mr. Ganster called the school prior to our contact to let us know he was definitely interested in continuing his participation with the Ashton SAC.)
