Another new school is coming to North Port. As a result of continued growth due to families moving to the area, the School Board of
Sarasota County will construct another new elementary school scheduled
to open in August 2009.
The opening of this school will require the creation and/or
revision of attendance boundaries.

Public Forum Meeting at Toledo Blade on April 1, 2008 at 6:00 P.M. (Please note change of date!)
Establishing school attendance boundaries ensures the availability of
program,
staff and facilities to meet the educational needs of all
students and ensures the
prudent use of taxpayers’ dollars. A Boundary Advisory Committee will be
formed to assist the school
district in the process of redrawing these attendance
boundary lines.
The Office of Long Range Planning, supported by the Office of
Research, Assessment and Evaluation, will organize and work directly
with this
group. The Boundary Advisory Committee will be formed with
the following
membership: the Director of Long Range Planning; the
Supervisor of Student
Assignment; representatives from Toledo Blade
Elementary School (and others if
necessary), including the School
Advisory Committee (“SAC”) Chair (if the chair
is a teacher, this will
be the teacher representative; if the chair is a parent, this will
represent one parent member from that school); the principal of the
school; four
parent representatives from the school who live in
different geographic areas
(selected jointly by the SAC Chair and
principal), and a teacher from the school
(selected jointly by school
administration and the Sarasota Classified/Teacher
Association).
In the process of drawing the attendance boundaries, the School Board will use the following guidelines whenever possible: Attendance areas will be designed to incorporate entire neighborhoods, where and whenever possible, so as to provide student groupings which are deemed reasonably viable, keeping neighborhood children together, and which fall within the operation and maintenance of an efficient, effective and economic transportation configuration.
Redistricting shall strive to assure that schools are left with a capacity that allows for growth from new neighborhoods. When attendance boundaries are changed, students with one year remaining in their present school may have the option of remaining at that school. This shall not automatically entitle the student to district transportation.
The public is encouraged to provide input during the entire Boundary Advisory Committee planning and School Board process. If you have questions or wish to
serve on the Boundary Advisory Committee, please contact Chris Renouf,
Principal, Toledo Blade Elementary at 426-6100 or Bill Storms at 927-9000
