1. What are Toledo Blade's hours?

School begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3:15 p.m. However, to ensure a safe and orderly dismissal, the students are dismissed as follows:

3:10 p.m. - All car riders, walkers, and bicycle riders are dismissed.
3:15 p.m. - All fourth and fifth grade bus riders depart with their teachers.
3:20 p.m. - All second and third grade bus riders depart with their teachers.
3:25 p.m. - All kindergarten and first grade bus riders depart with their teachers.

Toledo Blade's office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

2. I want to enroll my child at Toledo Blade Elementary. What do I need to bring with me to complete the registration?
To register your child in a Sarasota County school, you need to go in person to the school. Bring with you your child's birth certificate, proof of address, student physical (within the past year), and a list of immunizations on a Florida blue form (can be filled out by your local doctor or the health department). The rest of the necessary paperwork is available at school.
3. How can I, as a parent or community member, get involved at Toledo Blade?

VOLUNTEER!

Toledo Blade Elementary School is welcomes volunteers to work with staff and students. District policy requires that all volunteers complete an on-line application, which is screened by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Our volunteers are on of the many reasons our students continue to perform at the top of the Sarasota County School District . For volunteer opportunities, contact Toledo Blade's office, at 426-6100, and ask for our PALS Coordinator.

P.T.O.

The Parent Teacher Organization is going through a reorganization this year. It is to be comprised of parents, grandparents, teachers, and community members who are the heart of Toledo Blade School . Through the efforts of our new P.T.O., we will be able to offer supplemental programs and enhance our educational environment. They would like to offer opportunities for families to come together and meet their neighbors through a variety of special events. Anyone can be a member of Toledo Blade's P.T.O. Meetings are monthly and in the evening for your convenience. There are no membership dues. Get involved and make it a point to join Toledo Blade's P.T.O.

S.A.C.

The purpose of the School Advisory Council is to enhance school site decision making, to serve in an advisory capacity to the principal regarding school improvement and use of school improvement funds. All meetings are open to the public.

4. I know of a business that is interested in developing a partnership with Toledo Blade Elementary. How is this accomplished?
A business partnership is a relationship between Toledo Blade Elementary and a business with a desire to support the in school in a variety of ways. A business partner may support the school with a monetary donation, with goods or services, or both. In return Toledo Blade will recognize the partner's involvement and include them in the business partner listing which is located on Toledo Blade's website and is published monthly in Toledo Blade's newsletter. If you, or someone you know is interested, contact Toledo Bladeat 426-6100 and leave a message, or drop off your business card at the front office. We will return your call, answer any questions and complete the Toledo Blade Business Partnership Agreement. There is NO FEE! Sign up can occur anytime during the school year.
5. My child is sick and cannot go to school. What should I do?
It is recommended that you call Toledo Blade's office at 426-6100 prior to 9:30 a.m. and inform us of your child's absence. Then follow up when your child returns with a note to the teacher, which will be shared with the office, explaining the reason and dates of the absence. If you do not call Toledo Blade the morning of your child's absence, you will receive an automated phone message informing you of your child's absence.
6. Is there something special I need to do if my child needs to be dismissed from school early?
Yes! To maximize the amount of instructional time and to ensure the safety of all, students will no longer be released from class prior to the end of the school day without pre-approved arrangements. If you wish to have your child dismissed from school early, you must fill out a request for a Passport. A Passport will be issued when a parent/guardian informs the office, in person or in writing, prior to the day the Passport is needed. We need to be provided with the date and time of dismissal, reason for dismissal, and name and relation of adult picking up your child. The person picking up your child will sign them our and be issued a release slip in the front office. They will then be permitted to proceed to the classroom where the student will be dismissed to the person possessing the release slip.
7. Is there after school care available at Toledo Blade?
Yes, there is both after school and before school care at Toledo blade. For more information you can call the office at 426-6100 and leave a message for Ms. Karen Dodd.
8 . Where can I view Sarasota County 's grade level curriculum?
