Location/Services
(Contact Us)
Lakeview Elementary School
is located at 7299 Proctor Road in Sarasota, Florida, east
of Interstate 75 and south of Bee Ridge Road between the
communities of Lake Sarasota and Bent Tree. Expansive growth
has occurred in the surrounding area in recent years that
includes desirable family communities, convenient shopping
and a variety of church affiliations. Myakka State Park
provides a nearby opportunity to experience Sarasota's natural
environment. Quick access to I-75 facilitates north and
south travel to areas of interest along Florida's west coast.
Lakeview opened in
August 1987 as a model technology school with state-of-the-art
resources for computer literacy skills of the time. Dedication
of a committed staff, parents, students and community
support has provided for continued integration of current
technology in all areas of our curriculum. We currently
have 2 or more computer stations per classroom that provide
for a variety of computer based skills and enrichment
activities, including Accelerated Reader and Internet
research. Our Macintosh computer lab has 30 stations that
facilitates instruction of the county technology curriculum
goals to all classes on a rotating schedule. We have 3
Windows based computer labs that accommodate our computer
assisted instructional learning program used by all students
for either remediation or enrichment. Mobile carts of
computer laptops provide wireless access to the Internet
for classroom research and technology facilitated instruction.
The use of digital cameras and production software increases
student awareness of the digital world in which we live.
In 2007, a district wide initiative provided ActivBoard
technology to every Lakeview classroom. This technology
provides an interactive whiteboard that allows students
and teachers to collaborate on computer generated lessons.
The addition of peripheral technology such as ActiVotes
and ActivSlates enhances the interactive potential of
the ActivBoard.
Lakeview serves the
needs of exceptional students through a variety of approaches.
Services available include a full-time S.L.I., an inclusionary
program for gifted students and those with learning disabilities,
Resource Variable Exceptions which include Learning Disabled
and Emotionally Handicapped, Occupational Therapy and
resource Language, Speech and Hearing services. Lakeview's
ADD and ADHD students are accommodated with classroom
modifications. Although we have a limited ESOL population,
we provide a response to multi cultural concerns through
varied classroom activities and school wide events throughout
the school year.
