Dear Gulf
Gate Families,
It seems like just yesterday I was welcoming you all to the beginning of yet another school year. In the blink of an eye, it’s time to say so-long for another summer break. Where does the time go?
Thank you to Jennifer Fairly, Natalie Twigg, and Liz Kinsinger for chairing the Denim and Diamonds event last month. Not only did all of the attendees have a wonderful time, they helped raise over $17,000 to enhance technology here at Gulf Gate School.
I also want to thank our strong Gulf Gate PTA for another fabulous year. Under the leadership of PTA President Jeanne Abel, this PTA board, with your support, helped make this year a memorable one for all of our children. An extra pat on the back to the following PTA officers: Lauren Optiz, Erica Dannels, Maggie Nasser, Andrea McHenry, MJ Weber, Joann Stonecypher, Lisa Hollingsworth, Kelly West, Kim Tyack, Rita Witte, Kerry Pierce, Nora Nowicki, Heather Clark, and Linda Allen. Our children, their families, and our staff can’t thank you enough for the support you have given our school!
I
want to wish all the best to two of our staff members who will be retiring this year. Both Nurse Kandi Suarez and Deputy Pete Berkery have served our community well over the years. It is with a heavy heart that we will bid them a fond farewell at the end of this school year. We sure will miss Nurse Kandi’s constant laughter and good nature (not to mention her wild socks)! She knows and loves your children so much! Deputy Pete Berkery has been such a positive influence on all of us here at Gulf Gate, and I for one, will miss his calm presence here on campus. Please take a few moments at the end of this school year to thank each of these dedicated people and to wish them well.
In life, there are always those people you know you can count on for anything. These people are the ones who do so much for others with what looks like minimal effort. However, in truth, these people are gifted individuals who truly go the extra mile for others and work extremely hard. I have been blessed over the past five years to get to know two of these individuals. These women have truly made a difference here at Gulf Gate, and when their sons go off to middle school next year, it will be a true loss for us here. I personally want to thank Kelly West and Lisa Hollingsworth for the hundreds and hundreds of hours they have both volunteered here at school for the past six years. Their thoughtfulness and on-going commitment to the children of our school has been invaluable to us.
William C. Williams once said, “In summer, the song sings itself.” I hope you and your family find many times over summer break to enjoy each other’s company and make lots of wonderful family memories!
Gulf Gate Rocks!
Sincerely,
Robin Magac
Principal
