Garden Uniform Information
As stated in our last school newsletter, I am writing this letter in order to provide you with more detailed information about Garden’s dress code and school uniform program. Once again we are very proud to offer school clothes that meet all areas of the dress code.
Polo shirts will be available in hunter green, red, white, and royal blue. For those parents and children who prefer a more informal shirt, we will offer a quality gold gator embroidered t-shirt. Bealls has in stock over 500 of the polo shirts in various sizes and colors and over 150 of the gold t-shirts. Bealls intends to restock the shirts as needed. So if they are out of a color/size you want, please let them know so that additional shirts may be ordered.
Navy blue and khaki pants, shorts, skorts, and jumpers will also be available to complete the Garden Elementary uniform. The polo shirts will include our embroidered Garden Gator logo and will be priced at $11.99 (youth) and $15.99 (adult). The gold t-shirts will be priced at $7.99 (youth) and $8.99 (adult). Khaki and navy blue shorts for the boys and girls will cost $9.99, pants and jumpers will be $12.99, and the skorts will cost $10.99. I think you will find the prices of our suggested school clothes less expensive than standard articles and easily meet the dress code, particularly for our female students. The local Bealls store is located at Jacaranda Crossings, 4251 South Tamiami Trail.
NOTE: Bealls will be holding a Uniform Sale July 15 th through July 21 st. This will give you a 15% discount on any uniforms purchased. Also, please note that July 23 rd through July 31 st is the Florida “no tax” week, which actually gives you a 7% total purchase discount.
Our families will also be able to purchase the school uniforms online at www.beallsflorida.com, using their Boss system. You will be able to use your mouse to click on the county you live in and then click on the specific school to get the uniform information for GES. For your online shopping convenience, we have also created a link from our Garden web page. Please go to http://www.sarasota.k12.fl.us/garden/ and click on “For Parents”. Go the bottom of the new page and you will see the link for Bealls.
Again, it is important to note that the Bealls uniforms meet all the requirements of our dress code. For those parents that will not be purchasing the uniforms, I have enclosed a copy of the dress code.

Garden Elementary School's
Dress and Grooming Code
A student who is appropriately dressed and carefully groomed comes to school prepared to learn and shows respect, both for self and others. Parents are expected to act as guides and advisors in matters of proper school dress. Garden Elementary has a voluntary school uniform program. If you are interested in purchasing Garden uniforms for your child, you may do so at the local Bealls Department Store. The shirts are to be worn with khaki or navy blue shorts, pants, or skirts.

Enforcement of Dress Code
Primarily, the classroom teachers will enforce the general dress code. Teachers will make every attempt to handle enforcement discreetly and explain to the child the reason why his/her attire does not comply with the dress code.
1st violation: Teacher discusses concern with the student.
2nd violation: Written explanation sent home for parent's signature.
3rd violation: Same as 2nd violation. Points will be taken off work habits grade.
4th violation: Parent phone call or conference scheduled.
Even though the enforcement policy shows a four-step procedure concerning parent notification, the dress code will be enforced upon the first violation. In most cases, the student will be asked to go to the school clinic to change into the appropriate attire before returning to class.
Enforcement of footwear guidelines for physical education and music classes:
During the second week of school, a P.E./Music schedule will be sent home so that parents will know which days the student must wear shoes appropriate for athletic or movement activities. Students who do not wear the correct shoes will be unable to participate in the class. Non-participation will affect the child's grade. The enforcement policy stated previously will also be used.
Purpose:
At Garden Elementary School, we believe that students learn best in a professional learning environment where they are safe and free of distractions. To insure that dress and grooming enhance the children's learning atmosphere, rather than detract from it, we have updated our dress code based on input from the entire Garden staff and many parents.
Our peacemaking and character building programs place a prime value on showing respect for others and ourselves. Wearing appropriate clothing to school contributes to this climate of respect.
The ability to present a neat, pleasant appearance is a career skill that will always serve students well. Dress should not be as casual as it would be for the beach or a picnic, and yet not so dressy as to prevent children from participating in daily school activities.
Garden Elementary School has a voluntary school uniform policy. There will be a wide variety of shirt colors and navy blue and khaki pants, shorts, skorts and jumpers. The polo shirts will come in white, hunter green, red, and royal blue. There will also be a gold school t-shirt with our embroidered school logo. Uniforms can be purchased at the Venice Bealls Department Store or you can shop online via the Internet at www.beallsflorida.com.

School Hours
Garden Elementary School's student hours are 8:30am-3:15pm. The first bell rings at 8:15, when students may enter classrooms. Adult supervision is not available before 8:00, so students should not be on campus before this time.
