Travel through the world of reading through character traits.
Passport to Peace: The program is designed for parents and children between the ages of 6 and 12 with the purpose of helping the students identify themselves with positive images and attitudes of social interaction and improve academic achievement. The purpose of the program is so that the family can participate in interactive activities and improve in reading, writing and overall school performance.
Passport to Peace is a six-session program that is implemented in conjunction with the Roots & Wings parenting program and Bounce: Be A Resilient Kid program. These programs run simultaneously focusing on two attitudes each session that are critical to raising emotionally healthy and resilient children. Parents are given books and activities to do with their children. Children are also taught the character traits/attitudes and the importance of these attitudes. Families go home and read the stories provided to them and participate with their children with the interactive activities. The activities for each character trait have FCAT related activities to help parents, help their children with the skills necessary for improved academic performance. Parents are then encouraged to “catch” their children using the positive character traits and to recognize and reward their children for using those “attitudes”.
