Note of Appreciation
It is hard to believe that the end of the 2007-08 school year is upon us. As I reflect back to the start of the
school year, I am grateful for all that has transpired since August. I would like to take this final Panther
Press article to send a note of appreciation to all of our stakeholders. Special thanks to:

• the Booster Club Board and members for all you have done to help support Glenallen this year.
• the parents, community/business members and staff who served on our SAC committee.
• Mrs. Caruso and the NPHS art students who volunteered their time to brighten our campus by adding
their masterpieces to the Media Center (see Page 2).
• Mr. and Mrs. Hank and Vivian Chimenello for caring so much about our students!
• the members of the VFW for your support and for teaching our safety patrols how to properly raise
and lower the American Flag each day.
• the parents, guardians and caretakers of our students for supporting your child’s academic, social
and emotional growth this year.
• all staff members for all you gave each day to help each child reach their fullest potential.
• last, but not least, thank you to all of our students.

Thank you for learning with us this year. It truly has been a fabulous year of learning!!

Summer Learning
Summer is the perfect opportunity to continue learning. There are many educational web sites that, with the supervision of parents, children can increase their skill level in reading, math, science and more. The internet expands our ability to learn just about anything! As a family, you can take virtual field trips and travel to places all over the world without even leaving the comfort of your own home! We have several links on our web site that you may find useful as you surf the web this summer. You could also plan fun family trips to the North Port Library, GWIZ, Spanish Point and much more. Whatever route you choose, learning can be a part of your summer!

Enjoy the break! We look forward to seeing you on August 15 at Meet the Teacher. Please check out our
website this summer for specific dates/times.

E.S.E.

Individual Education Plan (IEP)

Your child’s Individual Education Plan is the road map for their academic year. Students IEPs are updated at least once a year. (This does not apply to the EPs for Gifted.)  If your child is reaching mastery of their goals before the year review time, we will meet a little sooner to add or change the goals so that your child is being challenged to their potential.  We may also take a look at what accommodation your child is using in the classroom.  So if you get a letter asking for an IEP review, please don’t fret since it is just the ESE staff staying on top of student progress.  If you ever have any questions about what is going on with your son’s or daughter’s IEP, you may ask the ESE teacher or give me a call.

Testing

Teachers and parents can refer a student for gifted testing.  There is an initial screening test and students who score in the upper percentile of this test will be referred for further testing.  If you have any questions about the gifted program or testing, please feel free to call the ESE Liaison.
