Science Lab - Fruitville Elementary School

About the Science Lab

The Science Lab at Fruitville Elementary is on the Specials' Wheel. Students in grades K - 1 visit the Science Lab every six days for 50 minutes. Students in grades 2- 5 visit the Science Lab for 50 minute periods on six consecutive days every five weeks.

Hands-on lessons are developed using the K - 5 Sarasota County Science Curriculum. The lab is equipped with the latest technology including a mobile computer lab cart, SMART board, and digital video projector. In addition, digital still cameras are used by the students.

The Science Lab promotes involvement of Fruitville students in the school's Science Fair. Science projects are mandatory for all fifth graders and the SPARK (gifted) team. All other classes participate in a classroom science fair project. The 2005 science fair had over 170 individual projects and many of the students will present their projects at the Regional Science Fair January 25.
