Alternative Certification for Teachers Teaching Can Be A Reality For You! ACT now!
Alternative Certification for Teachers
A district level Alternative Certification Program for Teachers (ACT) is available through the School Board of Sarasota County. The ACT program is a two-year program, for full-time teachers, designed to offer certification to non-education majors who hold at least a Bachelor’s Degree, possess the subject area requirements needed for a temporary certificate, and lack only professional education coursework necessary to obtain a professional certificate. Non-education majors may seek certification by either completing college coursework or by completing the ACT program.
In order to qualify for the Sarasota County ACT program, an applicant must:
- Be a full-time instructional employee of the Sarasota County School Board and have a full-time teaching assignment.
- Hold or be eligible for a temporary teaching certificate from the Florida Department of Education.
- Obtain the hiring principal’s signature on the ACT application.
- Sign the ACT application as an agreement of participation.
If you meet the above requirements and are interested in participating in the Sarasota County ACT program complete the application found under downloadable forms and submit the application to the Human Resources Department. Space in the ACT program will be limited. Candidates in critical shortage areas will be given first consideration.
