AFTER SCHOOL CARE
The
Brentwood Elementary After Care Program is an affordable, safe,
healthy, and fun environment for children of working parents.
The program operates from 3:15 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on all
scheduled school days, beginning with the first day of school.
Every
attempt is made to maintain a ratio of 1 adult per 20 children
with children being grouped by grade level. Time for completion
of homework is scheduled every day in After Care. Group leaders
do offer advice and assistance on homework, but parents are
encouraged to recheck their children’s assignments for
completion and accuracy.
A
healthy snack is provided at After Care, but children may bring
their own healthy snacks from home. Once homework and snack are
finished, indoor group activities, games, and occasional arts
and crafts projects are led and supervised by the group leaders.
Weather permitting, children are also taken outside for
supervised games and activities. On rainy days, movies are shown
indoors.
REGISTRATION & FEES
There
is an annual, non refundable registration fee of $25.00 per
child due at the time of registration. Registration must be
done in person by a parent or legal guardian. Parents also need
to bring the names and phone numbers of adults authorized to
pick up children. The parent must also provide current emergency
contacts and medical information and documentation for special
custody situations.
The
cost of the After Care Program is based on a daily rate per
child as stipulated in the following plan:
Ø
1st child $7.00
per day
Ø
2nd child $6.00
per day
Ø
3rd child $5.00
per day
Ø
Reduced Lunch
$6.00 per day (must provide verification form)
Ø
Free Lunch $5.00
per day (must provide verification form)
Monthly payment is due by the 15th of each month. Any
account that becomes more than $20.00 past due will result in
dismissal from the program until the balance and one week in
advance is paid in full. A late fee will be charged if payment
is not received by the 15th.
PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES & DISCIPLINE
Parents must come directly to the cafeteria to sign out children
from the After School Care program.
Adults only may pick up students, and they
must provide a photo ID.
Children are to be picked up
no later than 6:00 p.m. A $1.00 per minute fee will be charged
after this time. If tardiness is chronic, participation in the
program will be in jeopardy.
Students are expected to follow the school rules during After
Care. If an infraction occurs, a program staff member will
discuss the misbehavior with the parent, and the parent must
sign a warning form. The third warning may result in a three-day
suspension or dismissal from the program. If the misbehavior is
severe enough, suspension or dismissal can result without
warnings. Brentwood School administrators will make final
decisions regarding suspension or dismissal.

GUIDANCE SERVICES
The
Brentwood Guidance Department strives to improve the personal, social,
academic, and career development of all students through a variety of
services and interventions which include individual counseling, small
group counseling, classroom guidance lessons, and teacher/parent
consultation. The small group counseling topics offered are anger management, self-esteem, divorce, and loss of a family member.
Brentwood
has developed and implemented a school wide conflict resolution and
character development program known as Kelso's Choices, which
includes classroom guidance lessons, video presentations, and monthly
character themes, such as responsibility, friendship, and respect. This
engaging program teaches students how to effectively handle conflict in
a positive, productive manner, helps build self-esteem, and encourages
children to treat others with compassion and respect.
If you have any questions about the services
offered by our guidance department please contact Mrs. Susan Botsakis at 361-6230 or email her

HEALTH ROOM
It is a very distressing time for a
young child when he or she feels sick or in pain at school, away from
home and family. For this reason, Brentwood has a Health Room, staffed
by a health room aide, to provide care and relief for your child during
school hours.
HEALTH ROOM GUIDELINES
The Health Room is a temporary respite when first aid is necessary.
Therefore, a child will be sent back to the classroom as soon as
possible after feeling better or having his or her needs met. If, after
a reasonable length of time, the child does not feel well enough to
return to class, a parent or responsible adult will be called to take
the child home. If the child needs to be sent home, it will be
necessary for the parent to SIGN OUT the child being taken from school.
MEDICATION CAN BE GIVEN TO STUDENTS ONLY IF ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY
DURING SCHOOL HOURS AND ONLY AFTER THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS HAVE BEEN
MET:
- The drug store label must be attached to the container of
prescription medication and show the name of the child, the
medication name and dosage, and the name of the doctor.
- Over-the-counter medicines must be in the container in which they
were purchased.
- Loose pills, capsules, etc. are not permitted to be given to
children.
- A note signed by the parent requesting the dispensation of
medicine must accompany any medications to be given at school.
Pediculosis--Periodic head checks are
conducted at school to control head lice. If head lice or nits are
found, parents will be contacted to pick up their child for treatment.
THE CHILD MAY RETURN TO SCHOOL AFTER TREATMENT, AND ONLY WHEN ALL NITS
HAVE BEEN REMOVED.
We do not diagnose illnesses. However, in the event a child appears
to have a contagious health problem such as lice, impetigo, ringworm,
pinkeye, scabies, etc., the parent will be notified and arrangements
will be made for the child to be taken home. The student will be
readmitted to school when the problem has cleared up or with a written
notice from a doctor stating that the case is under treatment and no
longer contagious.
Please keep in mind that we are equipped with
and permitted to stock such items as thermometers, ice packs, band-aids,
gauze bandages, Betadine, and rubbing alcohol. Much can be done to aid
and comfort a child in the case of minor ailments with these few
supplies and lots of T.L.C. But if your child is ill, please keep him or
her at home where conditions are better for recuperation. Your diligence
in this area will also help us to control the spread of contagious
illnesses.
HEALTH/EMERGENCY INFORMATION CARD
A health/emergency information and parental consent card is necessary
for each child at Brentwood. This card is filled out by the parent at
the time of registration and is updated each year. It provides the
school with important information that is needed if a child is injured
or becomes ill at school. This information will help us contact you or
someone designated by you in case a serious accident or illness does
occur. Please include on the card all available telephone numbers,
including cell phone numbers. The card also authorizes the school to
call your doctor and/or seek emergency treatment for you child if we are
unable to reach you and others listed. It is extremely important that
the information be kept current. PLEASE REPORT ANY CHANGES IN YOUR
INFORMATION TO THE OFFICE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
If you have any questions or concerns about your
child's health or school policies, please contact our health room aide
