Certified Gifted teachers provide a curriculum which meets the unique and special needs of our gifted population. The Bay Haven School of Basics Plus offers grade level enrichment and the program enhances creativity and thinking skills by doing several different activities in the classroom. Students are given opportunities to use teamwork, cooperative learning and higher level thinking skills through the Renzulli model which emphasizes projects based on learning styles and interest. One of the big plusses at Bay Haven School of Basics Plus is differentiated instruction and flexible grouping at each grade level. Here at Bay Haven, students who need extra help have the opportunity to work in smaller groups to improve their basic skills. Those students who have been identified for remediation receive targeted skill instruction. All students are taught the same curriculum and take the same tests as their peers.

Creative Drama is
an improvisational process-centered form of theatre, in which participants
are guided by a leader to imagine, enact, and reflect. The process
is designed for the experience of the participants, not performance
for an audience. Through this process participants gain knowledge,
skills, and personal growth, while reflecting upon what it means to
be human.
The focus of this program is to equip the elementary classroom teacher
to effectively use creative drama to achieve curricular goals in language
arts, social studies and other core curricular areas. |

Music
classes are taught using a unique approach through the combination
of the Orff-Schulwerk process and creative drama. The Orff process
of listening, singing, playing instruments, creating movements and
creating music allows students to learn by active participation
using poetry, riddles, picture books and scenes from chapter books.
Creative drama, an improvisational process in which participants
are guided to imagine, enact and reflect in the classroom setting,
is used to hook students into a lesson so they are actively engaged
by using the tools and skills of the actor. Students learn to concentrate
and focus by thinking about the job to be completed; they use imagination
to create characters and dialogue; and they use cooperation to develop
scenes and scripts to set to music.
