Curriculum Enhancement
The REACH program is based on the best practices in Gifted Education. Lessons, activities and projects will be designed to meet the specific needs of each child. Some of the best practices are:

  • Theme based projects
  • Technology integrated into content areas
  • Integrated Units
  • Math investigations
  • Teaching of high order thinking skills
  • Creative Problem Solving
  • Use of Multiple Intelligences

Differentiated Curriculum

  • Modification to curriculum that adjust for the pace and depth of learning
  • Inclusion of interdisciplinary enrichment materials
  • Guided in-depth studies of special interest areas emphasizing student product development
  • Instruction modified to meet the "learning style" of the students

Eligibility

  • All identified Sarasota County gifted students
  • Students must qualify each year
  • Signed parent & student contract
  • Students that qualify on the REACH matrix which includes: Student performance, achievement testing: reading and math scores, academic grade average

Expectations
Student- Participate in leadership roles, initiate community service projects, think "out of the box", maintain academic excellence, have a commitment to learning, participate in the annual Science Fair (grades 2-5), produce book reviews and reports, create an individual portfolio.

Parent- Attend Parent Information Nights, assist children with individual learning contracts, volunteer for a minimum of 8 hours in the classroom which may include chaperoning field trips, tutoring, sharing gifts & talents and preparing class materials.
