Science- Develop an understanding of: matter, energy, physics,earth science, astronomy, biology, ecology
Social Studies- Develop an understanding of: heritage, history, rules and responsibility, economics

Grading
90-100= A
80-89= B
70-79= C
60-69= D
59 and below is failing

Homework
All homework and weekly reports are due the following day. First graders spend approximately 15-30 minutes on homework daily. Homework is an extension of lessons that have been discussed in class. He/she should have a designated area that is free of distractions and all tools should be available. It is effective to have your child finish their homework at a consistent time to ensure they develop good study habits for later grades.

Expectations
Student- Students are expected to come to school ready to learn. Employability skills such as punctuality, responsibility, on task behavior and preparedness are key to a student's success in first grade.

Parent- The first grade team believes a strong communication connection between school and home, as well as consistent support, is vital for a successful school experience. The first grade team expects all parents to check and review their child's daily work, sign and return necessary documents, ensure all homework has been completed and returned, read to their child each day and make sure their child arrives at school on time and ready to work.
