* AWC - Advanced Work Class is based on the best practices of gifted education.  AWC classes consist of identified gifted and high achieving students within each grade level.  Students not yet identified as gifted must requalify each year.             

* MD - Modified Departmentalized -  There will be 4 homeroom sections of fifth graders participating in the                                    

            MD Plan.  Two teachers will be assigned to teach Language Arts (Reading, Writing, and Grammar)/Social Studies for 2 hr. time blocks, while two teachers will be assigned to teach 4 sections of Math and Science for 1 hr. blocks. One day each week, each teacher will stay with his/her classroom to work on projects, field trips, etc.                                        

            *Self-Contained - The AWC and one additional classroom will not participate in the Modified Departmentalization  or Paired Teaching Plan.  Students in these delivery models will receive their core academic subjects from a single teacher.  They will still participate in Art, Music, P.E., and Science Lab as do all fifth grade students.
