Various levels of art classes are offered for the different grade levels.
Art 2-D reviews and elaborates all the basic elements of art, involves creativity, art history and an introduction of 3-D art.
Art 3-D begins with the basic concepts of 3-D art, clay, glass work, and fiber arts. Also, work with all Medias that can be turned into free standing art. A LOT of set-up and clean -up is involved in this class.
Computer Technologies
Synergistics - In this class, students will learn and apply engineering design, problem solving, and teamwork skills to solve a variety of design problems in the areas of manufacturing & robotics, drafting/design, aerospace, construction, and a variety of other technological areas. Students will also explore career pathways in a variety of technical fields while developing skills that are critical for success. Last, all students will have the opportunity to enhance their skills through participation in the Technology Student Association (TSA).
Computer Applications - This course provides an introduction to essential computer applications. We will utilize Microsoft Office products including word processing, spreadsheets, desktop publishing, presentation, and web design software. Student assignments are designed to demonstrate how these skills can be used in all core subjects: Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies and Writing.
Band
Band instruments include: flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, french horn, baritone, trombone, tuba and percussion. Beginning band classes are only in the classroom setting. However, after one year in the classroom setting students can seek teacher approval for advanced performance oriented band.
Orchestra/Piano Keyboarding
Orchestra provides the chance for students to learn string instrument techniques. The advanced class is performance oriented, which includes time performing outside of the school day in which participation is required.
Keyboarding is new to Heron Creek Middle School this year! Students will learn how to play the Electronic Piano Keyboard.
Physical Education/Health
Physical Education is provided so students can participate in a variety of physical fitness activities which include running, work on weight lifting equipment, and skills development. Students will also participate regularly in various team sports such as basketball, flag football, soccer, volleyball and many other athletic activities while learning the essentials of good sportsmanship. Students are required to dress out daily.
Health focuses on providing knowledge, skills and attitudes that enable students to make healthy informed choices regarding their health and well-being. topics of discussion are nutrition, mental health, social health, consumer health, alcohol, tobacco, and drug prevention, environmental health, and human growth and development.
Spanish/French
Spanish and French classes are available for 7th and 8th grade students as a high school credit. However, students are required to have a Language Arts and Foreign Language teacher's approval for admittance. Both courses provide a full year of exploring all aspects of the language and culture.
Theater
Theater is a performance course is designed to offer students a "hands-on" approach to the process of acting and the appreciation of Theatre. Basic principles of acting and their practical applications will be explored through laboratory exercises, improvisation, character development, games, reading of plays, written assignments and performance and production of plays.
